Semi-Guided Hunts

Kansas offers some of the best early-season muzzleloader hunting in the country. Its mid-September season provides a rare chance to target bucks still moving in bachelor groups. Because these deer remain highly predictable, they tend to visit the same bean, milo, or wheat fields together daily. Hunting the Kansas rut with archery equipment is widely considered the pinnacle of whitetail deer hunting. From late October through November bow hunters will brave the unpredictable Midwestern winds and dropping temperatures, often spending long hours in tree stands, to get that heavy-antlered Kansas giant within close range for a challenging and unforgettable shot. Late season rifle finishes up the year, historically being the first two weeks in December. It's a great time to catch bucks coming to feed to recuperate from the rut. Rifle hunts take place in tower stands in comfort out of the wind and elements.

Habitat

Central Kansas features sprawling crop fields of corn, sorghum, and soybeans paired with thick CRP bedding areas, giving bucks everything they need to grow massive bodies and trophy-class antlers. We strive for diversity in our private leases, allowing us to adapt to ever-changing conditions. This approach gives you the chance to hunt in areas exposed to minimal pressure.

Herd Management

Here at Carr's West we focus on producing mature, high-quality whitetails by implementing strict selective harvest criteria, such as a 140-inch minimum antler size restriction. To support this genetic potential and keep local herds resident, we strategically place water troughs, feed, and mineral sites across the landscape. These high-use setups maximize nutritional intake during critical antler-growing months and ease seasonal stress. We strive to allow our young bucks to reach maturity, allowing clients to harvest a buck at its full potential.

2027 Hunt Schedule

Muzzleloader

6 and a Half Day Hunt

9/13/27 - 9/19/27

Hunters will arrive at camp the evening of the 12th. The hunt starts the following morning on the 13th and will through Saturday the 18th. On Sunday the 19th you will hunt that morning and check out of the lodge around noon.

9/20/27 - 9/26/27

Hunters will arrive at camp around noon on the 20th. The hunt starts that evening and will continue through Sunday the 26th. Hunters will checkout the next morning on the 27th.

Archery

6 Day Hunt

10/24/27 - 10/30/27

10/31/27 - 11/6/27

11/7/27 - 11/13/27

11/14/27 - 11/20/27

Hunters will arrive around noon on Sunday and start their hunt that evening. The hunt will continue through the week. On Saturday they will have a morning hunt and checkout around noon.

Rifle

5 and a Half Day Hunt

12/1/27 - 12/6/27

Hunters will arrive at camp the evening of 11/30/27. The hunt starts the following morning on the 1st of December and will through Sunday the 5th. On Monday the 6th you will hunt that morning and check out of the lodge around noon.

12/7/27 - 12/12/27

Hunters will arrive at camp around noon on the 7th. The hunt starts that evening and will continue through Sunday the 12th. Hunters will checkout the next morning on the 13th.

Kansas Deer Tag & License Information

As a non resident you will have to apply for a non resident deer tag through the Kansas draw system. Applications are available online starting in April. You can apply as an individual or form a group of no more than five hunters. If you have a date booked with us we will help you navigate that process.

Special Note: When applying for your tag you will automatically receive a preference point if not selected in the draw. You can also purchase a preference point through the application process. This is especially helpful for hunters who have trips booked a couple years in advance.
